IC 2395 is a fine cluster of fifteen or sixteen stars, well seen in binoculars. The cluster is about 4500 light years away.
The cluster is found almost exactly between gamma and velorum, south of a line drawn between the two.
From gamma move a half-field of vision to the east. You'll encounter a number of stars here, the brightest of which (3.8), is named ‘b Velorum’. (Many of the stars in this constellation have upper and lower case letters.) The star is also a binary, h 4127, with a very faint companion (11) 37.5" away. The cluster is below this star. Star hop using the two stars to the south: binoculars.
