Beta Pyxidis is the southern most point of the asterism, which is nothing more than a straight line from beta, through alpha, and up to gamma Pyxidis.
The star is easiest found by starting at zeta Puppis. Putting zeta at the far southwest corner of your glasses gives: binoculars. Now place those stars found at the north-east down to the southwestern edge. Two brighter stars come into view from the east: alpha and beta Pyxidis.
