Pyxis, "The Compass", is one of Nicolas Louis de Lacaille's creations. He called it "Pyxis Nautica" (The Nautical Box, or Mariner's Compass).
The constellation's Bayer stars range
from third to fifth magnitude.
Zeta Pyxidis is a wide binary with faint companion: 5.0, 9.6;
PA 59º, separation 51.3".
Epsilon Pyx also has a rather faint companion: 5.6, 9.5; PA 147º, separation 17.7".
